Tonnellerie Damy


Tonnellerie Damy is a third generation cooperage located in Meursault, DamyBurgundy. Founded in 1946 by M. Roger Damy, Tonnellerie Damy is now managed by his grandson, Jérôme Damy. Damy produces around 20,000 barrels each year, and currently employs a team of 35 craftsmen.

Damy barrels are well known around the world for aging some of the great wines of Meursault and Puligny Montrachet. the new Damy reception roomTheir style is a perfect match with barrel-fermented whites — particularly Chardonnay — and Pinot Noir. This is why you will find Damy barrels in more than 80% of the cellars of the Domaines in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Damy is also used extensively with Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre, and Côtes du Rhône blends.

Damy barrels have a stunning ability to soften tannins while providing a soft, creamy, rounded mid-palate. The typical aromatic descriptor for the Damy barrel with white wine is crème brûlée and toasted hazelnuts.

Tonnellerie Damy also produces puncheons in various sizes.

Damy (and Billon) barrels have received the CTB (Centre Technique du Bois) stamp of approval, which guarantees to wineries and consumers around the world that these barrels meet the highest standards of quality in the industry. Of the more than 40 cooperages in France, only eight cooperages have been certified by CTB.


Stave Yard Expansion — Damy has recently expanded the size of its stave yard. Staves are now stacked at lower levels and pallets are well isolated, providing a 360-degree view of each pallet and ensuring consistency during the seasoning process.

Damy Rouge — The "Damy Rouge" barrel, growing each year in popularity since 2011, is a hand-selected blend of extra tight grain French oak - barrel cartall sourced from one long-term respected supplier and seasoned for a minimum of 36 months.

The Damy Rouge proprietary toast differs from the Traditional or Long Damy toasts at the end of the toasting process, where a stronger and hotter fire is used to help develop structure in red wines. This added structure compliments the roundness and creaminess on the mid-palate that is the signature Tonnellerie Damy tradition, without imparting any smoky characters.

Jérôme Damy's goal in creating the Damy Rouge barrel was to handcraft a special barrel that takes the traditional character of Tonnellerie Damy — a recipe known worldwide for its application in the Côte de Beaune — and builds upon it for use in the making of more powerful red wines, like those from the Côte de Nuits and the Côtes du Rhône.
