Tonnellerie BILLON and NAUDET Nurseries Partner to Plant 1,000 French Oak Saplings in ForestsTonnellerie BILLON, an artisanal family owned cooperage located in Beaune France and founded in 1947 is pleased to announce it has just signed a French oak replantation contract with Naudet Nurseries for replanting oak trees in France’s regional central forests.Tonnellerie BILLON is pleased to announce that through this project, 1000 trees will be planted in the autumn of 2021.The French Government through the ONF which stands for “Office National des Forêts” already does an amazing job managing France’s oak forests sustainably for future generations to come. However, because of climate change, some French oak forests in central France are suffering because of drier, sandier soils due to slightly more arid and desert-like environmental phenomena that are now being felt even in central France. These drier growing conditions that were previously nonexistent in central France are negatively impacting the survival of French oak saplings in the area.More efforts are needed in order to sustainably allow the number of French oak saplings to survive each year so that France’s central forests can continue to prosper for many decades to come and one way to do it is by planting more oak saplings. Tonnellerie BILLON is proud to be involved in this replanting project destined to help suffering sections of France’s regional central forests. Planting will be carried out by the nursery but also by cooperage staff and winery clients.
